Well I'm back in the UK... Southern France was great - it was really nice to do the beach thing for a bit... - I really liked Cannes and the boat trip I had there to Margherite Island... Lyon was pretty good too... I got there about 9pm (so nice and dark) and had a bit of trouble finding my way the tube station to get to the backpackers - esp since I didn't have change to get a ticket so this nice young french couple who didn't speak much english let me skip through the barrier when they used their ticket and wrote out directions (the changes i had to make) to get to the right stop - was very nice of them... - and cos they were so nice I didn't give them a disgusted look as they did their canoodling while waiting for the train (altho they had little breaks and tried out a bit of their english in between - like asking if i had seen a kanagroo etc :) )... then it turned out to be a bit of an endeavour to get from the tube stop to the backpackers - but there was a NZ couple going that way too so we joined forces and another french couple we met on the street walked us to the backpackers! - all very helpful!
Anyway Lyon was pretty... and I really liked Grenoble - went up in that cable car thing (like a big plastic bubble) to the fort on the top of the hill and spent a few hours wandering up there... and Chamonix was very pretty... went to the ice cave there (had to go in another plastic bubble - they are quite weird! - bit eeries being able to look at your feet and see the ground 100m below you!) and just walked around the town...

Howdy! Well have been enjoying the english countryside lately, going woods walking and visiting villages :)
I was planning on going to Belgium to taste the choccies, then my second choice was Germany, but for some reason it is busy busy and lots of the hostels were booked up, so on Saturday I am heading to Nice, Lyon and Chamonix (to check out Mt Blanc!) spending a couple of days at each - should be grand! Apparently France does nice thick hot chocolates so I should be OK!
When I get back, I will be staying with Kristin (Dave's sister) & Tom in London for a few days... then going to stay with my cousin Richard (also in London - at Surbiton where they have the famous Hampton Court maze, which I'll definitely have to attempt!)... And then I'll be organising to get my russian visa and soon after that I'll know more about where I am heading to next! (My next trip to europe will be a 'big one' - as planning on doing northern France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Poland and Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania but am waiting til the walking trails open in Austria...)
I'm sure I'll be letting you know how I am getting on in France, but til then au revoir!

well spring is definitely on the way here... temperatures have warmed up to double digits and the flowers are coming out! Have been staying at my uncle's checking out Cheltenham and doing some 'research' for future travels... Now back at my auntie's amongst the squirrels and pheasant...
Went to a point-to-point (horse race type thing) yesterday which was fun... - Les the Lizard came first you'll be pleased to know :) and on EASTER they are shooting bunnies! - how awful is that! - but the easter bunny did still manage to find me tho!

Well I am back from Egypt... can't believe 2 weeks is over! The only thing bad about Egypt was the sleazy slimy urgh-y egyptian men, the rest of it was great!
Went to Luxor and saw the Valley of the Kings, Hatputshut's temple and the Karnak temple - all very impressive. Did a 2day trip to Cairo - saw the pyramids - amazing stuff!!! - went inside the middle one - and altho people are disappointed as there isn't anything actually inside the pyramid I was still really impressed - you descend down this little narrow passageway (sometimes squeezing past others coming back) and the air just gets more stiffling the further you go. And then you go up a long dark ramp and you then are in this tall little room with such thick hot air you can imagine it being 5000yrs old, and you have over 100m of stone built up around you! Also went to the Cairo museum and saw Tutenkhamon's (bad spelling but you know who I mean!) mask and other treasures, to the Citadel and a huge bizarre, and stayed in a very ummm... not sure what the word is, but it was a hotel - that did have a fantastic view of the pyramids - unfortunately it has not changed since being built in the 70s, the showers just dribbled, and the manager was very sleazy...
